Bushfire

Another little journal quilt, this time for the Aust/NZ Art Quilt group. The theme for June was Fire so this is mine - better late than never as they say......It measures 11 x 8.5 inches, and is machine applique with metallic foils and machine quilted.
Having to deal with a bushfire is my greatest fear about living where I do. My property is very clost to the Wombat State Forest which has not burnt for about ten years. After the wet winter we have experienced, there will be phenomenal growth in the surrounding bush when Spring comes with warmer weather, and risks will increase as a result. The gloomy locals say that it is only a matter of time until we have another major fire. I really hope they are wrong.

A beautiful quilt and I love the use of the gold foil to hilight the flames.
Let's hope the locals are wrong about the bush fires.

I agree with Doreen - Beautiful - especially for such a scary subject. Although we dont live in a bushfire area now (although Im sure people everywhere have thought that before the fire) I understand how you feel -its one of the biggest threats of the bush we face.

This is a lovely journal page...even though the subject matter is rather scary...your piece is very nice. I have enjoyed reading a few of your posts and enjoyed them. I'd like to thank you for your comments on my blog today and invite you to visit often.....have a great day. Pat

having seen this [ in the real world ] today I have to say that the photo in no way does it justice - not that it doesn't look beautiful in the pic, but I know it's even MORE gorgeous in reality.

the background fabric works really well in adding one more visual layer and giving depth to the piece.

OOOOooo, this quilt is gorgeous - congratulations - scary subject, though. We've had only one this season, but it took 680 hectares not far from here in the Corbieres.
